A typical child living and learning in rural East African communities
Student-to-Student: Participate in our Student-To-Student Initiative. Student-to-Student is a special initiative of Green Village to connect children in East Africa to children in other countries of the world.
Organize a class of students to learn more about the history, people, land, nature, and current events and problems that face children in East Africa today. Green Village has developed lessons for intermediate and secondary teachers to use with their students - to explore their global connection to children from across the planet. The curriculum includes:
- social studies and geography activities that enhance student understanding of core elements of social studies, engage them in map activities, current events and historical research, and investigate relationships between culture, economy, geography, and civics
- reading and writing activities that build cultural understanding, enhance student engagement, and promote an interest in learning and reading
- community events suggestions for students in "first-world" countries to create a community service project to provide donations for students in "third-world" countries to attend school and participate in Green Village project activities
- EPen-Pals World-Wide - an effort to connect students in the west to students in East African villages through a joint writing and Global Friendship project
