Uwiro councilmembers and the Green Village director listen to local volunteers explain the green micro-loan process.  Villagers responded with a wealth of ideas about how to build green businesses.

Micro-loans, loans between $50 and $250 per family, can provide a foundation for a bright economic and educational future for African families.  Loans can be used to purchase land for organic farming, buy small livestock to create a milk, egg, or livestock trading business, or to start a tree farm to replant depleted forests and trees in local communities.

Green Village will begin its micro-loan process in 2010, and anticipate a necessary bank of $50,000.  This will allow the project to not only loan funds to over 300 villagers, but also to maintain the bank for a second village project, as Uwiro villagers work to repay loans over 2 years - with a zero interest loan agreement.

By cycling funds into the community, with gradual repayment, Green Village will enable green economic development, and maintain a long-term bank of funds to sustain those economic efforts across many villages.   To contribute to this sustainable micro-loan bank, please click on one of two pages on this site: Supporting Green Village or Become a Sponsor
