This 501(c)(3) non-profit organization was started in 2008 as a result of several years of visiting and working in East Africa in service of children's educational opportunities.  On a trip, I had the opportunity to drive through a small village in a beautiful region of Tanzania, just between Mount Kilimanjaro and a fabulous national park.  I noticed several things - there were many people in the village who were not engaged in productive work, there were many unfinished homes, and there was trash everywhere - all in a location that is prime real estate and high-end tour mecca of Tanzania.  This is fairly typical for a rural village, in that many of the local people simply don't have the education or initial support to help them help themselves.  This inevitably leads to an understandable sense of futility.

What we know here at Green Village is that the people of East Africa work hard and want a good life, for themselves and their children, and are willing to do whatever they are asked to engage collaboratively in helping themselves - with the small assistance of those who have the knowledge and resources to bring to bear.

This is our goal at Green Village - to provide small supports for big ideas and a large and open future for the rural and poor people of East Africa.

Our Board of Directors is comprised of citizens of the world, friends from the USA, Norway, and Tanzania - all of whom hold a firm commitment to give back some of the good that has come their way. Our friends and supporters come from across the globe, including Australia, New Zealand, China, Japan, the US, and Europe, and provide the backbone to our work.
